The accused created a fake Instagram account of the former chief justice of the Kerala High Court and sent messages to PAs and escort assistants seeking money.
The unidentified accused created an Instagram page in the name of Chief Justice AJ Desai, who retired from the Kerala High Court on July 4 this year.
The Cyber Crime Investigation Department of the Kerala Police has registered a case against the alleged perpetrator of creating a fake Instagram username in the name of former High Court Chief Justice AJ Desai and seeking money in his name.
On August 17, the Cyber Crime Police Station here registered a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and IT Act based on a complaint filed by Desai's PA.
According to the FIR, the unidentified accused created an Instagram page in the name of Desai, who retired from the Kerala High Court on July 4 this year.
The defendant then sent messages to the PA and the former chief justice's escort assistant on August 13, seeking money.
A case has been registered under sections 318(4) (cheating) and 319(2) (passing off) of the BNS and sections 66 C (identity theft) and 66D (cheating by impersonation using computer resources) of the IT Act.
