For a 43-year-old woman from South Goa, the Raksha Bandhan festival became extra special as her brother donated one of his kidneys to her earlier this year, giving her a new lease of life.
The woman, who suffers from polycystic kidney disease, received a kidney from her 35-year-old brother at a private hospital in April this year.
Although the siblings' names are being kept secret at the family's request, they have become an inspiration for organ donors.
“My wife was excited when she tied Rakhi to her brother. Since childhood, they were ideal siblings,” said the woman's husband.

The patient's married brother is preparing to donate a kidney. Doctors said he first underwent treatment for kidney stones and after obtaining necessary permissions, the organ was donated through laparoscopic kidney donation.
