In response to calls for a lockdown in Badlapur city, police resorted to lathi charges to disperse protesters who had gathered at Badlapur railway station to protest against the alleged sexual assault of two kindergarten girls.

The accused Akshay Shinde was arrested and although the police initially tried to downplay the issue by delaying the filing of the FIR for more than 12 hours, the parents persisted in filing a formal complaint. The defendant worked as a cleaner at a school contracted through a third-party company.
Responding to the sluggish police action, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday ordered the Thane police chief to immediately suspend the senior inspector, assistant sub-inspector and head constable of Bhadrapur police station.
