Thousands of protesters blocked the tracks at Bhadrapur station on Tuesday, causing massive disruption to local train services and diversion of some long-distance trains.

Thane police arrested more than 40 people and registered First Information Reports (FIRs) against at least 300 people who were protesting over the alleged sexual assault of two four-year-old girls by a sweeper at Bhadrapur railway station and block the tracks.

Police said the arrested protesters will appear in court on Wednesday.

DCP, Central Railway GRP Manoj Patil said, “The situation is normal and railway operations are also normal. Nothing has been imposed. Internet services will be suspended for a few days to prevent rumors from spreading…”

Meanwhile, the situation at Bhadrapur railway station has returned to normal with local trains running at normal speed every day following the fierce 'Rail Roko' protests.
