A home guard was arrested on Wednesday for sexually assaulting a three-year-old girl in Pratap Nagar area, police said.
A case has been registered against him under the POCSO Act, they said.
The incident took place on Tuesday night near the child's home in Pratap Nagar area, Deputy Commissioner of Police Labhuram Choudhary said.
“The girl was playing outside her home on Tuesday evening when the defendant, who was riding a motorcycle, noticed her. He stopped his bicycle, sat on the terrace outside the house, called the girl over and put her on his lap. Then he started molesting her and the panicked girl started screaming,” Chaudhry said.
He added that the accused fled the scene after the girl started screaming.
Police said the girl returned home and told her parents about the incident, who reported the incident to the local police station.
The police swung into action and inspected the spot and checked CCTV footage to identify the accused, who was later found to be Kishan Lal Jingar (44), a home guard from the same area.
“We registered a case against him under the POCSO Act and other relevant sections, nabbed him from his house this morning and arrested him after preliminary investigation,” Chaudhry said.
