The Supreme Court on Tuesday asked protesting doctors to call off their strike; however, medical staff decided not to call off the indefinite strike over the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
Doctors at RG Kar said they would continue to strike until the Supreme Court delivers its verdict on Thursday. Doctors will also take out a protest march from RG Kar to Sashthya Bhawan on Wednesday.
Tech professionals in Kolkata have also joined RG Kar medical staff in protest, with hundreds of IT professionals taking part in a rally in Sector 5, Salt Lake City, a suburb of Kolkata on Tuesday.
Engineers in Kolkata have also expressed support for Dr RG Kar and are planning to demonstrate on Wednesday at 3 pm.
Meanwhile, India's Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday questioned an “acquaintance” of one of the main accused for the second consecutive day to ascertain the motive for the crime.
