The country is protesting against the brutal rape and murder of a doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital. Citizens demanded strict action to get justice to the deceased victim. Local18 reports on protest demonstrations in Silda, West Bengal. Protesters covered themselves with paint to show solidarity with the murder victims, the statement said. The protest reportedly took place on a local train which was returning from Sealdah at 8.14pm. It was reported that the carriage was very crowded, which was carried out by the passengers in the carriage. One of the protesters, Tarak Das, an artist, painted on his hands to symbolize this brutal crime.
According to Local18, several passengers covered themselves in paint as part of the protest demonstration, all while inside a moving train. The protest was held to demand immediate and severe punishment for all those involved in this heinous crime. One protester was covered from head to toe in paint depicting the condition of the victims. He held up a poster that read “We want justice.”
Madhyamgram resident Tarak Das discussed the situation with Local18. According to him, not only women and doctors took to the streets to seek justice, but commuters who use local trains every day also got involved. Passengers further demanded that the truth behind the entire case must be found out. Images from the protests are circulating on social media.
Local18 has shared an exclusive video from the protest, which captures some of the key players in the demonstration. Members covered in paint walked around the train to build momentum for the protest.
The crime reportedly took place on August 9 at RG Kar Hospital. In the days that followed, medical groups organized strikes and protests to demand justice and stricter safety rules for female medical professionals.
