The Maharashtra government on Tuesday ordered the setting up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the alleged sexual abuse of two girl students at a school in Bhadrapur, Thane district, which triggered massive protests that disrupted local train services stop.
The SIT will be headed by Inspector General of Police Aarti Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, who heads the Home Department.
Fadnavis said he has directed the Thane police chief to prepare a proposal for hearing the case in a fast-track court.
On August 17, police arrested an attendant from a Bhadrapur school for allegedly abusing two female kindergarten students, aged 3 and 4 years old. According to the complaint, he abused the girl in the school restroom.
The school management has suspended the principal, a head teacher and a waitress over the incident.
The incident triggered massive protests by parents of school students and others, including several women, who entered the tracks at Bhadrapur station and blocked local trains, affecting the traffic between Karjat and Kalyan sections. Serve. They shouted slogans and demanded action against the criminals.
More than four hours have passed since protesters took to the tracks, but police and authorities have been unable to convince protesters who refuse to listen to pleas to withdraw the blockade.
