Akshay Shinde has been accused of sexually abusing two four-year-old girls in the toilet of a school in Bhadrapur.

A group of local residents on Wednesday attacked and vandalized the house of Akshay Shinde, a cleaner accused of sexually assaulting a school in Badlapur in Maharashtra's Thane district. Arrested for abusing two underage girls.

According to neighbors, an angry mob of around 50 to 100 people entered the house and even attacked his family.

According to the video shared by news agency IANS, the ceiling fan can be seen broken and utensils and other household items scattered across the rooms of the house.

The accused lived in a rented house near Gandvi Temple in Halwai village of Bhadrapur (east), The Indian Express reported. Shinde's neighbors said the incident occurred while Shinde was in police custody. A neighbor said: “A large group of thugs, mostly young men, broke into Shinde's home, attacked his family and damaged furniture.”

Another neighbor said several of Shinde's relatives who lived nearby were also beaten. Both families were forced to flee, he said, adding that there were no police around when the incident occurred.

Shinde was accused of allegedly sexually abusing two four-year-old girls in the toilet of a school in Bhadrapur. The accused, a cleaner contracted through a third-party company, was arrested on August 17 after the girl's parents urged them to file a formal complaint despite an initial delay in lodging the FIR.

On Wednesday, a local court extended his police detention until August 26.

Meanwhile, the Bombay High Court has taken action against the massive protests that took place on Tuesday over the horrific crime. A division bench of Justices Revati Mohite-Dere and Prithviraj Chavan will hear the matter on Thursday, Live Law reported.

Thousands of protesters blocked the tracks at Bhadrapur station on Tuesday, causing massive disruption to local train services and the diversion of some long-distance trains. With at least 15 outbound trains operating on the Ambernath-Karjat section, local train services were suspended for ten hours, leaving thousands of passengers stranded.

Thane police have arrested more than 70 people and registered a First Information Report (FIR) against at least 300 people for protesting and blocking railway tracks, resulting in at least 25 police personnel, including railway police, being injured in stone-pelting incidents. A large number of police personnel have been deployed across Bhadrapur to maintain law and order and the situation in the town has returned to normal.

The Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, which consists of political parties including the NCP (SCP), Shiv Sena (UBT) and the Congress, has called for a Maharashtra rally on August 24 to protest against this horrific crime.
