The Met Office has issued an orange alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Konkan's Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts from August 24
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Friday said heavy rainfall is expected in Mumbai and many other parts of Maharashtra over the next four to five days.
The Met Office has issued an orange alert, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall in Konkan's Palghar, Thane, Mumbai, Raigad and Ratnagiri districts from August 24.
It has also issued an orange alert for Pune and Satara districts of western Maharashtra and Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur and Gondia districts of Vidarbha on Saturday .
The orange alert warns of heavy rainfall exceeding 64.5mm in 24 hours, which could disrupt normal life and cause flooding in low-lying areas.
A yellow alert has been issued in several districts on Saturday, except a few districts in western Maharashtra and Marathwada, where thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate rain and wind gusts of 30-40 kmph are expected. .
The IMD has also issued an orange alert for Konkan and parts of western Maharashtra on August 25 and 26.
IMD scientists told PTI that a low pressure area over the adjoining areas of northern West Bengal and northeastern Jharkhand and a low pressure area over the east-central Arabian Sea off the Maharashtra coast will bring heavy pressure to Maharashtra in the next 48 hours. It brings rainfall to most parts of Bang Bang.
