Protest against Kolkata doctor rape and murder
Amid the rape and murder of a Kolkata doctor, India's Central Bureau of Investigation is investigating why the woman's cries when she was attacked were not heard.
The CBI is probing the rape-murder case of a woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, focusing on how the crime was committed without any hindrance in the seminar hall of the facility where a gate tower is located, a police officer said. Bolts were found to be broken.
CBI officials are also trying to find out if anyone was stationed outside the seminar hall to ensure that the crime was not disrupted, he said, adding that investigators were analyzing CCTV footage to confirm this.
Investigators wanted to know why no one in the seminar hall heard anything while the victims were being tortured.
“A bolt in the tower broke, causing the door to malfunction. We are investigating whether anyone was stationed outside as a guard at the time of the crime.
Preliminary findings indicate that the door has been malfunctioning for some time due to a broken tower door bolt. The victim entered the lobby between 2am and 3am on August 9th.
He added: “Interviews with doctors, trainees and junior doctors revealed the malfunctioning of the door was a known issue which prevented the victim from locking the door that night.”
The agency on Friday continued questioning former director of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Sandip Ghosh in connection with the case. Additionally, the CBI produced the arrested suspect Sanjay Roy before the court and was sentenced to 14 days in jail.
On August 9, the body of a graduate intern was found in the seminar hall.
Following an August 13 order of the Calcutta High Court, India's Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) took over the investigation from the Kolkata Police.
