The controversial former principal of Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital Dr Sandip Ghosh is now the target of a newly formed special investigation team probing him for alleged financial corruption. He has already appeared in the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) daily for the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor at the medical facility.

The SIT contacted Ghosh on Wednesday (August 21) to inform about the allegations and complaints received against him following an internal investigation by the West Bengal health department. He may soon be questioned as investigators look into his “suspicious” financial dealings over the past three years.

news18Agencies with knowledge of the documents have learned that the charges include purchasing CCTV footage, placing work orders for canteens and hotels, ordering rental laptops, purchasing furniture and accepting bribes from contractors.

Two FIRs filed against Dr Sandip Ghosh

Notably, there are two active cases against the former RG Kar principal – both were registered by the Kolkata Police earlier this week, while he has also been issued notices for questioning in these cases.

The seriousness of the situation is reflected in two federal investigative reports against him – one filed by the state health department and the other for allegedly leaking the identity of a rape-murder victim, a serious violation that further intensifies the investigation. His legal review.

On August 20, the four-member SIT – headed by an Inspector General-level officer – took over the FIR based on a complaint by the health department. In this particular FIR, Ghosh was charged with Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) offenses involving forgery, fraud and criminal conspiracy. Another FIR against him was cited in the section regarding leaking the name and identity of the victim.

His role in the alleged financial corruption is expected to come under greater scrutiny as the investigation progresses, potentially leading to serious legal consequences.

A senior official of the state health department IAS said the SIT has been asked to submit the report as soon as possible. The senior official said that based on the contents of the report, Ghosh could face serious legal and criminal proceedings, which could include dismissal.
