A former Delhi police officer was arrested on Thursday night for the murder of a Greater Noida businessman over a property dispute. Accused Praveen, 42, was taken into custody 13 days after victim Ankush Sharma was reported missing by his family.

Defendant Praveen claimed that Praveen's trip to Canada delayed the registration process. After returning home, he asked Praveen for an additional Rs 20 lakh, but was refused.
“On August 5, Praveen and Sanchit met Ankush at his office in Alpha-2 Market and Praveen agreed to pay Rs 11 lakh. However, Praveen had planned to kill Ankush and occupy the apartment,” DCP Khan added .
During interrogation, Praveen admitted that on August 9, he lured Ankush to his office, picked him up in a Cretan car and injected him with lassi laced with a sedative.
Praveen then took Ankush to the underground parking lot of his SKA association residence and killed him with a hammer. To avoid detection, he sent messages to his lawyer and friends using Ankush's mobile phone, claiming that documents were being prepared, and then dumped the body near Sharda roundabout. Police traced Praveen based on CCTV footage and Praveen revealed the location of the body, which has been sent for post-mortem.
A case has been registered under Sections 103(1) (murder), 238 (causing disappearance of evidence) and 123 (causing hurt by poison, etc.) of the BNS Act.
