Efforts are on to nab the two criminals who shot Sukhchasinh Singh, who recently returned from the United States, and are on the run, they said. Sukhchain Singh was leaving his home in Daburji Village on the outskirts of the city for his morning walk on Saturday when the attackers intercepted him.
They broke into his home, shot him three times, and fled. Two of the bullets hit Sukhcha Singh, one in the head and another near the chest. According to police, he is now out of danger. Addressing the media here, Amritsar Police Commissioner Ranjit Singh Dhillon said the attack on Sukhchasinh Singh was carried out at the behest of his first wife's family.

Those arrested include Sarwan Singh, father of Sukhchain Singh's first wife and a resident of Baines village in Hoshiarpur; Jagjit Singh and Chamkaur Singh of Ntalan helped the attackers before the crime; hotel owner Digambar Attri and hotel manager Abhilash Bhaskar provided accommodation to the attackers without asking for identification, the police officer said.
According to police, the attacker stayed at Attri's hotel before and after the crime. Dhillon said police also arrested Sukhwinder Singh, Kuljinder Kaur and her husband Jasvir Singh, who are living in the United States. Sukhwinder Singh and Kuljinder Kaur are the brothers and sisters respectively of Sukhchain Singh's first wife.
Sukhchain Singh was shot in front of his wife, mother and two children from his first marriage. Footage retrieved from a CCTV camera installed in the victim's home showed his wife, mother and children begging the attackers to let him go. Special Commissioner of Police (Internal Security) RN Dhoke met the family members of Sukhchain Singh on Saturday.
