The Election Commission of India (ECI) has set up 24 polling stations for Kashmiri immigrants to vote in the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly polls.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of J&K PK Pole said that these 24 polling stations are being set up in Jammu, Udhampur and New Delhi to facilitate Kashmiri immigrant voters to cast their votes in the Legislative Assembly polls.
The chief executive said in a statement that people displaced from the Kashmir Valley and living in Jammu and Udhampur will not have to fill the M form as is the case in the Lok Sabha elections.
“Kashmir migrant voters residing in various relief camps in Jammu, Udhampur and Delhi have chosen to vote in person through electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the elections, where they can vote at 24 polling stations, of which 19 polling stations are voting middle.
“Continuing the historic decision taken by the ECI during the Lok Sabha elections, the earlier requirement of filling M Form for immigrant voters in Jammu and Udhampur has been lifted. Voters residing in districts and camps will be mapped to Jammu and Udhampur respective polling stations in Dhampur,” he added.
“Excerpts from the draft roll, mapping immigrant voters living in different districts of Jammu and Udhampur with their respective special polling stations, will be released soon. Any addition, deletion or correction will be allowed within seven days.
Thereafter, the final photo electoral roll excerpts for each polling station will be published, whereby migrant voters will be able to cast their votes at these special polling stations like any other elector by simply showing the Electoral Photo Identity Card (EPIC) or any ECI notified 12 backup photo IDs.
Migrants residing outside Jammu and Udhampur can now self-certify Form-M without having to attest it by a gazetted officer or other authority.
“Those voters required to fill Form M, who reside outside Jammu and Udhampur and wish to exercise their franchise in person should disclose the details of the voters in their households to the designated election officer,” the chief executive said in a statement.
In addition, all immigrant voters who do not choose to vote in person will have the option to vote by mail.

The counting of votes will take place on October 4, and the entire voting process will end on October 6.
