The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is widening its probe into financial irregularities at Kolkata's state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, including the names of three business entities in the first information report (FIR) filed in the matter.
Sources said the three new names contained in the FIR belong to three business entities namely Maa Tara Traders, Ehsan Cafe and Kham Louha.
All these names were mentioned in a petition filed by a whistleblower and former deputy director of RG Kar Akhtar Ali in the Calcutta High Court over the irregularities, which last week directed the CBI ) is responsible for the investigation.
The CBI filed an FIR against the controversial former chief of RG Kar Sandip Ghosh, who has been probed by the central agency not just in financial irregularities but also in rape and murder cases. , a photo of a junior doctor in a hospital.
Sources said that based on specific clues, these three business entities were named in the FIR as they were the beneficiaries of the financial irregularities allegedly committed by Ghosh when he was in charge of RG Kar's affairs.
CBI sleuths on Sunday conducted marathon raids at Ghosh's residence in Beliaghata in central Kolkata and the owners of Maa Tara Traders Biplab Sinha in Howrah district. Raids and searches were carried out at a number of other locations, including by a former and current official of RG Kar.
According to the findings of CBI officials, sources said Maa Tara Traders enjoyed a de facto monopoly in supplying different medical equipment to RG Kar as its owners were close to Ghosh.
CBI officials are conducting a multi-angle probe into financial irregularities at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital involving 15 specific allegations of fake funds, sources said.
The main allegation is soliciting bids for separate contracts from private and contracted parties without obtaining the necessary approvals from the state health department and the University Board of Governors.
