The move is aimed at reducing hardship for pregnant women.

In a major boost to rural healthcare, the Firozabad health department has launched a new initiative to strengthen services for pregnant women. Under this initiative, private surgeons in Firozabad, Uttar Pradesh, will provide free medical care at local government hospitals and pregnant women will not need to travel to district hospitals for emergency care.
To address the challenges faced by rural women, private doctors will be stationed at Community Health Centers (CHCs) and Primary Health Centers (PHCs) in villages. These doctors will handle emergencies and perform surgeries as needed, providing round-the-clock care. The health department will bear their costs, ensuring that no woman is referred to a distant hospital.
Dr Pawan Kumar, Additional Chief Medical Officer, Firozabad Health Department, explained that the move is aimed at easing the hardships of pregnant women who previously had to travel long distances to get care. In some cases, women develop complications while traveling to city hospitals, resulting in serious health risks, or even give birth en route.
Under the new scheme, private gynecologists will be compensated as follows: Rs 2,000 per surgery, Rs 1,000 for travel expenses and Rs 4,000 for night surgeries. This financial support is intended to ensure the availability of skilled medical professionals around the clock.
In addition to surgical care, the program includes free ultrasound services. Previously, women faced long waits at ultrasound centers at government hospitals. To simplify the process, private ultrasound centers have been linked via QR codes. Women will receive a receipt from the hospital, which they can use to undergo a free ultrasound at these private facilities.
This comprehensive approach is expected to greatly benefit rural women, ensuring timely and effective healthcare services close to home.
