    Watch: Heavy rains hit Gujarat, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar suffer severe flooding

    Hundreds of people were evacuated to safety in Valsad and Navsari districts as southern parts of Gujarat were hit by heavy rains over the weekend.

    Heavy rainfall triggered flash floods in several parts of Gujarat state, forcing authorities to move hundreds of residents to safer places. Navsari, in particular, experienced severe flooding, leading the IMD to issue a “red alert” for the region on Monday. More than 100 mm of rain fell in parts of Narmada, Sirendra Nagar, Rajkot, Tapi, Mahisagaram Morbi, Dahod and Vadodara districts.

    Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday predicted that the state of Gujarat, including Vadodara, Surat, Bharuch, Navsari, Valsad, Amreli and Bhavnagar, will suffer heavy rainfall till Tuesday morning. ) will experience “heavy to very heavy” rainfall.

    NDRF Operations at Morbi Valsad

    The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) conducted rescue operations in Valsad on Monday after heavy rains caused flood-like conditions.

    “The water level rose in the morning, causing water to enter Hanuman Baghdad and Valsad areas, disrupting road connectivity. We rescued a pregnant woman and we are distributing food and relief materials…” NDRF Inspector Ramesh Kumar ) said to ANI.

    The NDRF is conducting a search operation in Gujarat's Morbi district for seven people who were swept away along with a tractor-trolley while crossing a flooded causeway on a river during heavy rains, an official said on Monday. Ten of the 17 people on the tractor trolley were rescued in an overnight operation near the village of Dawana.

    Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar submerged

    Parts of Ahmedabad and the capital Gandhinagar were also inundated, leading to waterlogged street closures, flooding and damage to infrastructure. In Kutch, the Nachtrana-Lakhpat highway was inundated due to heavy rainfall, triggering a flood-like situation in the area.

    Bharuch 280 people transferred

    As many as 280 people were shifted to safety from low-lying areas in Gujarat's Bharuch city after nearly 400,000 cubic meters of water was released from the Sardar Sarovar dam into the Narmada river, officials said on Monday.

    Following a massive inflow from the Omkareshwar dam in Madhya Pradesh upstream Narmada, the water storage height of Sardar Sarovar reached 135.20 meters on Monday, just 3.48 meters below its full capacity of 138.68 meters, a report issued by the state government said.

    The dam, located near Kevadia in Narmada district, is said to be receiving 3.68 lakh cubic feet (cubic feet per second) of water and releasing 3.95 lakh cubic feet of water into the river.

    Hundreds of people were evacuated to safety in Valsad and Navsari districts as southern parts of Gujarat were hit by heavy rains over the weekend. Khergam taluka in Navsari district recorded the highest rainfall of 356 mm in the last 24 hours, which ended at 6 am on Monday, according to the National Emergency Operations Centre.

    Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has directed officials to evacuate residents from low-lying areas to safer places. His office said the areas worst affected by heavy rainfall include Valsad, Tapi, Navsari, Surat, Narmada and Panchmahal in south Gujarat.

    In view of heavy rains and floods in Gujarat, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Patel and was briefed on the current situation and assured the central government of all possible help.
