A government school in Basirhat surprisingly has an advanced QR code attendance system. Find out how it proved to be a game changer

An attendance system installed at a government school in Basirhat, West Bengal, will now send parents instant updates via mobile phones if students are late or leave the school premises to go home. In an innovative move to enhance student safety, Maratipur High School in Basirhat has launched a QR code-based digital attendance system.

This modern technology utilizes QR codes for automated attendance. The system can track not only students’ attendance but also teachers’ attendance, thus providing a comprehensive solution for school attendance monitoring.

By scanning QR codes on arrival and departure, parents can now rest assured that their children are getting home safely and on time.

One might expect an elite private school in Kolkata or any other city to have such an attendance system. But people may be surprised to know that a government school in Basirhat has introduced this innovative method of attendance monitoring. In fact, the school’s modern infrastructure and décor rival those of the city’s renowned institutions.

The school has approximately 3,000 students and 60 teachers and educational staff appointed. Under the leadership of Principal Shahnawaz Alam, joint teachers and the school management committee, the school has been transformed with modern infrastructure.

Students use smart cards to record their attendance. Place their digital ID card in front of the machine to be scanned upon entering and leaving the classroom. When the student returns home, the same machine sends a message to his or her guardian's cell phone. The system will also sound an alert if a student or teacher is late. This measure has been well received by students, teachers and parents.
