one new research We are reminded that 8,200 years ago, global sea levels rose by 6.5 meters in just 140 years. That's 470 centimeters per century and 4.7 centimeters per year, a period during which CO2 concentrations were considered “safe” and stagnated at 260 ppm.

From this rate of change, global sea level rose at a rate of 1.56 mm per year from 1900 to 2018, with the most recent period from 1958 to 2014 rising by 1.5 mm per year (Fredrikser et al., 2020, Fredrikser et al., 2018). Just under 16 centimeters per century, or sixteen tenths of a centimeter (0.16 centimeters) per year.

Net melting of the Greenland Ice Sheet (GIS) is believed to be the largest contributor to sea level rise in recent decades. However, accounting for changes in GIS, the contribution of the entire ice sheet melt to sea level rise is only 1.2 all 1992-2020 cm (Simonson et al., 2021).

The natural extent of Earth's sea level rise rate regularly reaches 4.7 centimeters per year, which is 30 times greater than the “anthropogenic” rate of rise (0.156 centimeters per year) in the modern period (1900-2018).
