KNP's latest cheetah death was reported weeks after the death on August 5 of Gamini, a 5-month-old African cheetah cub.
The male cheetah, Pawan, was found lying motionless near the edge of a swollen nullah in the bush around 10.30 am on Tuesday.
After being notified, veterinarians carefully inspected and found that the front half of the cheetah's body, including its head, was in the water. The statement said there were no external injuries on the body.
The preliminary cause of death appears to be drowning. It said further details would be provided upon receipt of the autopsy report.
After Pawan's death, KNP was left with only 24 cheetahs, including 12 adults and as many cubs.
