The BJP workers are determined to make the band influential and famous.
On Tuesday, a student organization called the West Bengal Students Association called for a march to Nabanna.
To ensure the success of the Bengal Bandh announced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), workers and supporters of the party actively took to the streets of Behanpur early on Wednesday morning. As early as 6 am, BJP leaders and workers were seen walking around various places in the town holding party flags. They visited different markets, railway stations, bus stations and other important areas such as Swarnamoyer Market. Their mission is to appeal to shop owners and market vendors to close their shops in support of the band. The workers' determination to make the orchestra influential and visible reflects the party's strong stance on the current state of affairs in West Bengal.
In a major move, the BJP workers stopped the Bhagirathi Express at Murshidabad station (Lalgola-Sealdah line). The operation is being led by Gouri Shankar Ghosh, MLA representing Murshidabad assembly constituency. The blockade lasted for over an hour, during which passengers faced considerable inconvenience. Soon after the incident at Murshidabad station, another group of BJP workers blocked the Sealdah-Lalgola MEMU train at Berhampore Court station. The protest at the station lasted for about an hour, during which trains were unable to move, causing delays and unhappy passengers.
BJP MLA Gouri Shankar Ghosh said, “This bandh was named by the BJP in the state. That's why we are blocking the railways. Currently, there is anarchy in the government. The police are deliberately attacking the student community. We are observing this march to protest against the Attacks on students, including the RG Kar incident. On Tuesday, a student organization called the West Bengal Students Association called for a march to Nabanna. However, the police declared the march “illegal”. Many areas of Howrah and Calcutta took on a battlefield-like appearance due to the march. In response to alleged police brutality, the BJP has called for a 12-hour Bengali bandh event on Tuesday, to be held from 6 am to 6 pm on Wednesday.
