Students are raising money to build homes for people affected by the floods.
In the wake of the catastrophic floods and landslides in Wayanad, Kerala, many celebrities have come forward to help people in distress. In addition to them, local people are also busy with rescue and rescue operations. Recently, National Social Security volunteers have set a unique example in raising funds to build homes for displaced people. NSS volunteers of Kilimanoor Raja Ravi Varma Boys Vocational High School have been raising funds to build houses for flood-affected people in Wayanad. Instead of collecting money directly from local residents or family members, the students decided to make the lotion and sell it on the market.
Each volunteer was assigned a specific number of lotion bottles to sell. All funds raised from the sale will be given to the National Social Security Fund. The fund will then be used to construct about 150 houses in Wayanad. To this end, the school has also set up a two-day summer camp. The lotion was produced on school premises with an initial production batch of 300 bottles.
Supply will be increased later based on demand. Nizam, the principal of the school, is providing all possible support to the students. As part of the camp, a free Ayurveda camp was conducted in the school. Selling lotion isn't the only way they raise money. As part of the effort, students are organizing a food festival. Fundraising activities for the relief effort were conducted under the supervision of Sunitha, a school teacher and state social services coordinator.
The Wayanad landslide occurred in the early morning of July 30. Landslides are caused by heavy rains causing hillsides to collapse. The disaster was one of the deadliest in the state's history. About 420 people were reported dead, 397 injured and more than 118 missing.
A massive rescue mission was launched by many government agencies including the armed forces, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), fire and rescue department, forest and wildlife authorities.
