Fateh Singh, eager to return to his homeland, encountered an unexpected and disturbing situation when he arrived at the Delhi airport.
Fateh Singh, a 71-year-old NRI who has lived in London since 2002, found himself at the center of a major immigration case after arriving at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport on August 23.
Singh moved to London to pursue his dreams and avoided returning to India for more than two decades due to past problems. He hopes that the passage of time will cover up his previous crimes. However, this proved not to be the case when he was intercepted by immigration authorities upon arrival.
The trouble started when Singh's passport was checked through the immigration software Pride. The system showed that Singh's travel history was blank, prompting immigration officials to conduct further review. During subsequent interrogation, it was discovered that Singh had used a forged passport to enter London in 2002.
Singh was immediately detained by the Immigration Department and handed over to the IGI Airport Police for further investigation. He now faces charges under Sections 319 (2) and 318 (2) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
After further investigation, police arrested Sukhdev Singh from Kaital, Haryana, who was allegedly involved in helping Singh obtain a forged passport. Inspector Sumit and his team are continuing to investigate the case.
