Indian Railways Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) officer Satish Kumar will be the new chairman and chief executive officer of the Railway Board. He is the first Dalit official to be appointed chairman of the railway board in the 119-year history of Indian Railways.
Satish Kumar has more than three decades of service experience with the Indian Railways. Previously, he held a number of senior positions, including railway general manager.
Kumar will succeed Jaya Verma Sinha, currently the chief executive of the Railways. She will retire on August 31. She is the first woman to be appointed chief executive of the Railways.
Kumar has made significant contributions in the field of fog safety devices. His innovations ensured that trains could operate safely even in foggy conditions.
Satish Kumar is a 1986 batch Indian Railways Service of Mechanical Engineers (IRSME) officer. He joined the railway company in March 1988.
He also served in the North Eastern Railway Division at Gorakhpur and Patiala Locomotive Works. He played a detrimental role in enhancing the division's combat capabilities.
Kumar received his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Malaviya National Institute of Technology (MNIT), Jaipur. He holds a PG Diploma in Operations Management and Cyber Law from Indira Gandhi National Open University.
