Trinamool Congress students staged demonstrations in front of several colleges in Kolkata on Friday, demanding changes in the existing anti-rape laws to ensure death penalty for convicts after conviction in fast-track courts.

“We demand that the existing laws be changed so that rapists are sentenced to death on instant conviction. This has been emphasized by our leaders, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Party National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee .
He said this requirement has become particularly prominent since the on-call doctor was found suspected of rape and murder in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital on August 9.
Bhattacharya said the student body demanded that the CBI expedite the investigation into this horrific crime and identify all those involved to provide justice to the victims and their families.
