West Bengal Congress president Adil Ranjan Chaudhry visits late doctor's home and talks to her parents
West Bengal Congress president Adil Ranjan Chaudhry on Saturday accused the police of putting under “house arrest” the parents of the doctor who was raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar MCH. Congress leaders visited the late doctor's home and spoke to her parents.
Chaudhry claimed that the police offered the victim's father money to cremate the body as quickly as possible.
“I visited the late doctor's residence and spoke to them for a long time. The police have put the family under house arrest. They are not letting them come out of the house on various pretexts. The police have put up roadblocks around them and CISF has responded to this No idea,” Chowdhury told reporters.
“The Kolkata police, following the instructions of the state government, provided money to the father while telling him that his daughter's body must be cremated immediately,” Chaudhry claimed.
On August 9, the body of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor was found in the seminar room of the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata. The institution adopts strong security measures.
Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury was stopped by police when he arrived at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital to meet agitated junior doctors.
“I went there as an ordinary person and not as a political leader to express solidarity with them. But the police prevented me from meeting them… If they had shown this promptness earlier, our doctor sister would not have suffered such a fate, “Chowdhury said.
A citizen volunteer of the Kolkata Police has been arrested for his alleged involvement in the crime.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is investigating the matter on orders of the Calcutta High Court.
