Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday raised the issue of women's safety for the third time in recent weeks, calling for immediate and tougher action against crimes against women and children.
His strong remarks followed protests against the rape and murder of a trainee doctor at Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital and the sexual abuse of two four-year-old schoolgirls in Badlapur, near Mumbai. Addressing a national conference on district justice, Prime Minister Modi said, “Today, atrocities against women, safety of children… are a serious concern of society.”
'Strong laws'
“The country has many strict laws in place for the safety of women, but we need to make them more proactive. The faster decisions are taken in cases involving atrocities against women, the greater the safety of half the population can be guaranteed,” he added.

“The safety of mothers, sisters and daughters is the top priority of the country. I have raised this issue many times at the Red Fort. I understand the pain and anger of my sisters and daughters in any state in the country,” he said . Modi said he would tell every political party and state government that crimes against women are unpardonable crimes. He added that whoever is guilty should not be spared.
“Those who help perpetrators of crimes against women should not be spared. Whether it is hospitals, schools, government or police stations, no matter where the level of negligence occurs, everyone should be held accountable.” He said his government had worked hard over the past decade to Women have done more than all previous regimes since independence.
