Nearly two-thirds of the land in Yamunahadar district has been encroached upon in recent years, a survey report released on Friday showed.

On March 27, the Delhi High Court directed the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) to use the latest technologies such as “satellite imagery” and “drone photography” to find out the current status of the land in “O” zone.
According to a senior DDA official, the Delhi Development Authority found during its investigation that 7,362.56 hectares of the total 9,700 hectares of land in “Zone O” of Yamunahadar area were encroached.
On July 8, the High Court directed the DDA vice-chairman to remove all encroachments and illegal structures along the banks of the Yamuna river, its bed and drains flowing into the river.
As per the High Court order, the DDA has to coordinate with all relevant agencies to remove encroachments in 'khadar' areas. Delhi Police can provide necessary security personnel to maintain law and order during anti-encroachment operations.
In a bid to stop illegal construction and encroachment on government land in Delhi and resolve land-related complaints, the DDA, Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and Survey of India on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding for drone surveys. This will resolve the issue of uncertainty over the status of lands belonging to different government agencies and can save these lands from encroachment.
