Recently, the Udupi Police celebrated the retirement of the dog, bidding farewell to the devotion and loyalty of this adorable pooch.
The dog, known as Icon, has been working for the Udupi district police for the past 10 years and 25 days, Local18 reported. It belongs to the Labrador Retriever breed, a dog popular in the area for its speed and concentration.
Icon was born on August 5, 2014 and joined the police squad on November 5, 2014. Udupi district police superintendent Dr BS Sudhakar has donated money for the retired dog, Local18 reported. The farewell ceremony was held under the leadership of Ganesh M, APC, who was the caretaker of the dog.
The dog underwent rigorous explosives detection training for nine months at CAR South Adugodi in Bengaluru. It has carried out 417 special tasks in and outside Udupi district. It successfully completed its missions at Kapu Lighthouse, Manipal University, Railway Station, Nagarjuna, Mysore Dasara, National Anti-Narcotics Conference, Crude Bomb Detection in Brahmawar and other places.
As per more information provided, this dog is believed to have brought several honors to Udupi district. This included a silver medal won for the police department at the Police Duty Conference held on 22 February 2020.
Icon has served many dignitaries including the President of India, Prime Minister and foreign guests. It has also performed at high-profile venues such as air shows, G-20 summits and international cricket matches. In addition, it regularly provides services in sensitive locations such as Malpe Port and Cope Lighthouse.
