    Home Ministry forms central team to assess damage caused by floods in Gujarat

    The home ministry is in touch with senior officials in these states and will also commission IMCT locally if they report severe damage, the statement said.

    The home ministry has formed an inter-ministerial team to assess the damage caused by rains and floods in Gujarat.

    According to an official statement, the team will soon visit flood-affected areas of Gujarat, which suffered heavy rainfall between August 25 and 30 due to deep depressions formed over Rajasthan and Gujarat.

    At least 25 people died in rainfall-related incidents across the state on August 26 and 27.

    The home ministry has constituted an inter-ministerial central team (IMCT) headed by the executive director of the National Institute of Disaster Management (NIDM) to assess the damage caused by rains and floods in Gujarat, the statement said.

    Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan were also affected by heavy rainfall. Multiple torrential rains, torrential rains and landslides have caused widespread damage in Himachal Pradesh this year.

    The Ministry of Home Affairs is in touch with senior officials of these states and will commission IMCT locally if severe losses are reported in these states, the statement said.

    Several other states are also affected by heavy rainfall, floods, torrential rains and landslides during this monsoon.

    The statement said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government is fully committed to providing all possible assistance to the affected countries.

    Following the decision taken by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in August 2019, the Ministry of Home Affairs established IMCT this year and visited flood and landslide-affected states of Assam, Kerala, Mizora in advance Mbang and Tripura, conduct on-site assessment to know the damage without waiting for their memorandum.

    The IMCT of Nagaland has also been set up and will visit the affected areas of the state soon.

    The statement said that in the past, IMCT visited the affected states only after receiving memorandums from the state governments.
