In West Bengal, Bluetooth headsets have not only led to arrests but even convictions. The Barrackpore Additional District and Court on Saturday convicted five men in connection with a robbery and murder case in Titagarh in 2023.
The first arrest in the recent RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case was also made with the help of Bluetooth headsets. The accused, Sanjoy Roy, left his earphones near the spot, which led police to him.
Case
On May 24, 2023, a murder took place at a jewelry store under Barrackpore PC Titagarh PS. A bag containing Bluetooth wireless headphones and some motorcycle documents was recovered at the scene. Using these two clues, along with CCTV footage, CDR and IPDR analysis and other technical evidence, the five men were found in Barakpore (Lahala), Birbhum (Murali), Patna (Beeta) , Odisha (Baleshwar) and Punjab (Moga) were arrested. The five people are Safi Khan, Jamshed Ansari, Asif Khan, Rajvir Singh and Uttam Kumar Uttam Kumar Upadhyay.
Investigating officer Indrajit Das, currently posted at Sankrail PS in Howrah, submitted the charge sheet within 85 days. Special PP Bibhas Chatterjee joined the prosecution, relying on strong technical evidence, gait pattern analysis, TIP, video enhancement technology and other technical evidence and most importantly, the mac id of the Bluetooth headset seized from the PO and the paired mac id Make a pairing.

Speaking to News18, Barrackpore Commissioner Aloke Rajhoria said: “I am happy that we were able to secure a conviction and deliver justice within 15 months of the incident with the help of technical evidence, specifically the Bluetooth pairing. This is the first Bluetooth case in the country. Matching cases play an important role in persuading the courts.
