A 46-year-old woman was allegedly cheated by a man she met on a matrimonial website, an official said on Sunday.
She said the victim, a personal assistant in the Mumbai Police Force, was a divorcee and had posted details of his remarriage.
“The accused Pratik Sanjay Deore-Patil contacted her through the website. Later, he lured her to invest Rs 95,000 between March and August on the promise of good returns. He also threatened her,” said an official of Kalwa police station.
He was booked by the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for fraud, criminal breach of trust, criminal intimidation and other offences, but has not been arrested yet, the official added.
