President Murmu said the Supreme Court has made a valuable contribution as a vigilant sentinel of the judicial system of the world’s largest democracy.

President Drupadi Murmu on Sunday unveiled the new flag and emblem of the Supreme Court to mark its 75th anniversary.

President Murmu, while addressing the valedictory session of the two-day National Regional Judicial Conference organized by the Supreme Court, said the Supreme Court has made a valuable contribution as a vigilant sentinel of the judicial system of the world’s largest democracy.

The President added that Indian jurisprudence enjoys a very respectable status due to the presence of the Supreme Court.

She appreciated the many events organized since the 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court, which have enhanced people’s trust and attachment to our judicial system.

President Murmu reiterated that people regard every judge in the country as God and that every judge and judicial officer in the country has the moral responsibility to respect Dharma, truth and justice.

“District courts determine the image of the judiciary in the minds of hundreds of millions of citizens. Therefore, providing justice to the people through district courts sensitively, quickly and at low cost is the basis for our judicial success.

The President stressed that infrastructure, facilities, training and human resources of the judiciary at the district level have improved significantly in recent years, but “much work remains to be done in all these areas”.

She said that the pendency and backlog of cases was a major challenge facing the judiciary, with cases remaining pending for more than 32 years.

President Murmu stressed that events like “Lok Adalat Week” should be organized more frequently to resolve pending cases.

She suggested that arrangements should be made to use local languages and adapt measures to local conditions to realize the ideal of justice at the doorstep.

“The judiciary, government and police administration should work together to find solutions to problems related to evidence and witnesses,” she added.

President Murmu concluded her speech by saying that she believed that through the implementation of the new criminal justice law, our judiciary would usher in a new era of justice.
