The Cabinet Committee on Security on Monday approved a proposal to procure 240 aero engines for the Indian Air Force's Su-30MKI aircraft from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited at a cost of over Rs 26,000 crore, the Ministry of Defense said.
Deliveries of the aero engines will begin in one year and be completed within eight years, the company said in a statement.

Due to the localization of some key components of aerospace engines, the domestic content of these engines will exceed 54%. The products will be manufactured at HAL's Koraput unit, the statement said.
“These aero engines supplied by Air India will meet the fleet maintenance requirements of the Indian Air Force to continue its unhindered operations and enhance the country's defense preparedness,” the ministry added.
