Bharatiya Janata Party chief Babulal Marandi harshly criticized the government and accused it of replacing jobs with deaths.
The tax police recruitment process in Jharkhand turned grim as medical examination led to the tragic death of 11 candidates. Many others are reportedly sick and receiving treatment. This disturbing trend raises serious concerns about the safety and conditions of the recruitment process.
Bharatiya Janata Party chief Babulal Marandi harshly criticized the government and accused it of replacing jobs with deaths. Marandi said that instead of providing jobs, this government is providing death.
In response to the crisis, both the Jharkhand Police Headquarters and the state government have taken emergency measures. New guidelines have been issued, including provision of drinking water stations at selection centers and deployment of medical teams with necessary beds and medicines.
Preliminary investigations indicate three main factors contributed to the candidate's death, but a clear cause has not yet been determined. The situation continues to evolve as authorities seek to address and mitigate risks associated with the recruitment process.
Preliminary investigation revealed the following three reasons:
- Extremely hot: The candidates are experiencing health crises due to running in the sweltering heat, leading to fainting and deteriorating health.
- Stimulant use: There are reports that some candidates use performance-enhancing injections to increase their strength during competition, which may have adverse effects on their health.
- Insufficient facilities: Inadequate arrangements at the recruitment center, including a lack of drinking water, left candidates in pain and fainting.
Eleven candidates died while undergoing medical examination during the recruitment process for tax police in Jharkhand, police said on Sunday. The physical test for the Jharkhand Revenue Police Competitive Examination was conducted on August 22 at seven centers in Ranchi, Giridih, Hazaribagh, Palamu, East Singhbhum and Sahebganj districts start.
The final cause of these deaths will be clarified after detailed investigation. An unnatural death (UD) case has been filed against the late candidate and further investigation is on to ascertain the exact cause of death.
Giving the latest updates, police spokesperson Amol V Homkar said that out of 1,27,772 candidates who appeared for the medical examination, 78,023 successfully passed, including 56,441 males and 21,582 females. Homkar said all centers ensured adequate arrangements including medical teams, medicines, ambulances, portable toilets and drinking water.
The incident sparked controversy among BJP MP Aditya Sahu, who criticized the government's appointment policy and called for a compensation of Rs 50 lakh and employment opportunities for the family members of the late candidate.
The youth wing of the BJP staged a demonstration against the JMM-led government at Ranchi's Albert Aika Chowk, claiming that the deaths were due to mismanagement by the authorities.
Reacting to this, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey urged not to politicize the issue, stressing that the government was committed to addressing the matter seriously and supporting the families affected by the tragedy.
