Meta AI turned out to be the savior of a 22-year-old UP woman who attempted suicide and posted the video on social media. Thanks to Meta AI's quick alert, the UP police were able to take quick action and save her life at the last moment. In working with Meta AI for nearly a year and a half, UP Police has successfully saved the lives of more than 460 people.
It all started with a post on her Instagram account at 12.11 pm on Saturday by a 22-year-old woman from a hamlet on Sultanpur Road in Nighohar police station, Lucknow. “In her post, the woman shared a video of herself standing on a chair with a red dupatta tied around her neck, preparing to commit suicide. Soon after the video was shared, we received a notification from Meta AI An alert was issued, marking the video as objectionable. We were immediately alerted and forwarded to the appropriate police station.
After receiving the suicide alert, officers from the Nigoha Police Station swung into action and rushed to the address mentioned in the alert. “The team led by Station Officer Anuj Tiwari took around 4 minutes to reach the designated address. The rescuers arrived at 12.15 pm,” said Rajnish Verma, Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mohanlalganj. outside the woman's house and immediately rushed inside her house and rescued her. He added that the girl's condition remained stable.

During interrogation, the woman revealed that she had a love marriage with a man named Aman at the Arya Samaj temple. After four months of living together, he refused to accept her, leading to their separation. This rejection prompted her to attempt suicide. “The man has also been booked for abetting suicide. The video of the suicide attempt was also deleted from the woman's social media page,” the ACP said.
Meta AI saves more than 460 lives in UP
However, this isn't the first time Meta AI has been a savior. In January 2023, the UP Police Department partnered with Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, to use artificial intelligence to prevent suicide. From January 2023 to August 2024, Meta's artificial intelligence played a crucial role in saving more than 460 lives by detecting suicidal intent posts on these platforms.
When such a post appears, Meta's artificial intelligence immediately sends an alert to the social media center at DGP headquarters. The center operates 24/7 to promptly process alerts and determine the user's location and other relevant details. This information is then forwarded to the respective police stations for prompt intervention and life-saving action.
