The boy had an affair with a young man from the same village and ran away from home twice before.
A man, allegedly angry over his minor daughter's relationship, brutally murdered her and mutilated her body in a village in Motipur police station area of Balaich district, police said on Monday.
The police registered a case based on the complaint of the victim's mother and arrested the accused father.
Additional Rural Police Superintendent Pavit Mohan Tripathi said: “Naeem Khan, a resident of Lakshmanpur Matehi village in Motipur, allegedly killed his 17-year-old on Monday. Khan slit her throat with a sharp weapon and then chopped off her head, hands and legs. Witnesses said that after committing the crime, Khan sat next to the dismembered body angrily.
“The girl had an affair with a youth from the same village and had run away from home twice before,” Tripathi said.
He said the accused youth was arrested in a case registered at Motipur and Nampala police stations and was sent to jail after charges were filed.
“Naim admitted that he became suspicious of his daughter after she ran away twice. He suspected that she might have run away from home again.
“Naim said his daughter's behavior might have a negative impact on his other children, so he killed his daughter with a sharp weapon,” the officer said.
Police officer Heera Lal Kanaujia told reporters that during interrogation, the accused father said that he had four daughters and his eldest daughter's love affair affected his other children.
He added that the father also claimed that the incident involving his eldest daughter had brought shame to the family in the village.
Police officials said an autopsy of the body was underway. He added that police would investigate the matter in depth and legal action would be taken.
