Wolf attack in UP's Bahraich leaves two injured, including a 9-year-old boy, Operation Bedia underway

Police said Sunday there were two wolf attacks, including injuries to a 9-year-old boy.

District Commissioner Shashibhushan Lal Shushil told PTI that the first incident took place in Pure Dildarsingh village on Saturday night when Paras (9) was sleeping outside his house when a wolf attacked him.

Sushil said that in another incident, Punnilal (55) was also attacked by a wolf while he was sleeping outside at Dariakutti in Maikupur Gram Sabha around 4 am.

He said villagers and the county magistrate had said it was a wolf attack, but the forest team had yet to verify it.

The two injured are receiving treatment in the hospital and are now out of danger.

Sushil said there were six wolves in the group and four of them had been captured by the forest team.

“The wolves are being tracked with the help of drones and traps and cages have been placed near the wolf den near Kulera village in Mahsi tehsil. On Saturday, two wolves were seen in the thermal sensor camera. But due to the late hour, the execution The Operation Bedia team failed to capture them.

The attacking animal is expected to be caught within a day or two,” he added.

Divisional forest officer Ajit Pratap Singh said that Operation Bedia was underway in the area and the wolves were changing locations, making it difficult to capture them.

Singh said wolf attacks on humans have been recurring in Maharishi Tehsil in the district since March.

He said attacks had increased since the rainy season on July 17, with seven people, including six children, killed and about 30 injured in attacks.

The families of the five deceased have been compensated Rs 500,000 each. The remaining two will be compensated after the investigation is completed.
