The police recovered 38 silk sarees worth around Rs 1.75 crore from the thieves.
Police said questioning of the detained women revealed that they had committed similar crimes at a shop in JP Nagar area and another shop in Jayanagar.
An alert shop owner in Bengaluru called the nearest police station and helped the police arrest four members of the 'saree chor' gang. The police also seized 38 silk sarees worth approximately Rs 1.75 crore.
However, two members of the gang managed to escape and police launched a manhunt and captured them.
Interviewed by a news agency Year, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda said, “The staff of JP Nagar police station arrested four women and recovered 38 silk sarees worth around Rs 1.75 crore. The four women along with two others went to JP Nagar A silk shop in the area and tried to divert the attention of the workers in the shop.

“They tried to take away about 18 saris. The store staff were suspicious of their actions and immediately stopped and asked. After verification, it was found that they were trying to steal the 18 silk saris.
He said questioning of the detained women revealed that they had committed similar crimes at a shop in JP Nagar area and another shop in Jayanagar.
“They stole around 38 sarees like this. All these sarees have been recovered. The total value of these sarees is around Rs 1.75 crore. Four accused women have been arrested in this case and we are working on it Arrest the other two women as soon as possible,” he said.
