Amid the ongoing protests by junior doctors over the RG Kar rape and murder case, several Trinamool Congress leaders have made controversial remarks against the ruling party. Some even pushed back against the protesting doctors, asking them to return to work. These remarks put the ruling party in an awkward position.
In view of this, All India Trinamool Congress general secretary Abhishek Banerjee has appealed to the party's public representatives and activists to refrain from making any harsh comments against doctors and prominent civil society figures.
Regarding 'X', Abhishek Banerjee wrote: “Public representation across party lines needs to be more humble and compassionate. I urge everyone in @AITCofficial not to say Bad words for anyone. Everyone has the right to protest and express their opinion – this is what makes West Bengal different from other BJP-ruled states.
“We wholeheartedly oppose the bulldozer model and tactics of political oppression. Now is the time to take constructive action to ensure that such horrific incidents are never repeated. Bangladesh must unite in this fight until the perpetrators are punished and the states and the Union Don't stop until the government enacts an anti-rape time limit law,” Banerjee added, in an apparent dig at the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh.
It is noteworthy that Abhishek Banerjee did not initially comment on the RG rape and murder case. Later, he strongly condemned the incident at the Trinamool Chhatra Parishad meeting held at Mayo Road in Kolkata on August 28. He also supported the campaign for justice in the RG Kar rape and murder case.

“I will enter your homes and take abnormal pictures of your mothers and sisters,” BJP national spokesperson Pradeep Bhandari quoted TMC leader Atish Sarkar as saying , and hang them on your walls. Sarkar has been suspended from the ruling party following his remarks.
Earlier, TMC MP Arup Chakraborty made a controversial statement against protesting doctors.
“In the name of sport, you can go home or go out with your boyfriend. If a patient dies as a result of your strike and the public wrath falls on you, we won't save you,” he said.
