A 27-year-old woman died after being hit by an SUV in Mumbai's Malad area, police said on Wednesday. The accident took place in Gudiyapada area on Tuesday night, following which the police arrested the driver of the SUV, who is a Merchant Navy officer.
The woman, Shahana Kaazi, was walking when she was hit by a Ford Endeavor around 10pm.
“After the accident, the accused personally took the woman to a nearby hospital, but she died during treatment,” an official from Malad police station said. Press Trust News Agency.
The accused, Anup Sinha, has been booked and arrested by the relevant authorities of the BNS. His vehicle was also impounded by police.
According to reports, the accused has an office in Andheri and was on vacation when the incident occurred.
The official said police had taken his blood sample to determine whether he was driving under the influence.
