Known for its historical significance, the Murugan Temple in Tirunelveli is located in the valley of the Tamil Bharani river and is often submerged during floods. The visible portion of this inscription is incomplete and consists of six lines of contemporary Tamil script, suggesting details of the temple's architectural and structural elements dating back 950 years.
About 500 meters away from the temple, in a dilapidated hall, a second incomplete inscription was found detailing the division and channeling of the river through the dam. Like the first inscription, the inscription is also 950 years old, which Murugan and Madhivanan, assistant professors of archeology, confirmed through the shape of its font.
