Students of a private college in Bengaluru allegedly ravaged and assaulted a junior student from Kerala after he refused to shave off his beard. A case was registered in the matter while the victim was undergoing treatment at a local hospital.
According to a report in The Times of India (TOI), 21-year-old Dhruv (name changed), a resident of Hado Siddapura from Kerala and a student of Krupanidhi Group of Institutions in Chikka Bellandur, His hand was broken and his whole body was injured.
According to the complaint of Dhruv's father, his son was attacked by about 10 students at a secluded area near St. Stephen Matoma Church in Hado Siddapura between 8:30 and 9:00 pm on August 30. said that when he started college in April, three upperclassmen objected to his mustache and beard and asked him to shave them off by the next day.
“I did not comply and went to college without shaving. They were angry and continued to harass me into shaving cleanly, saying I was disrespectful to my elders. They beat me at least four times on campus.
On Friday night, an elder called Dhruv and asked him to meet near the church to discuss it. Anticipating trouble, Dhruv went there with his roommates. “The three seniors were already there with seven or eight other seniors. They confronted me about shaving and forced me to shave on the spot. When I refused, they verbally assaulted me and physically assaulted me .I'm not sure what object they used, but I was seriously injured,” Dhruv explained.
After threatening him with further consequences, the group left and Dhruv's friends took him to a private hospital where he underwent surgery for fractures the next day. The university administration has promised to take action against the attackers.
Dhruv's father reported to police that the three senior citizens also threatened his son while he was undergoing treatment in the hospital. The Bellandur police have filed a case with various divisions of the BNS (Bharat Nasional Court) for causing hurt, undue restraint, unlawful assembly, rioting and criminal intimidation. “Since the perpetrators are also students, we have issued notices to them to appear before the investigating officers to give their statements and take necessary action,” a senior official said.
