Aviation regulator DGCA has ordered an investigation into the incident of aircraft engine parts found outside Delhi airport, sources said on Wednesday.
While sources said the metal parts could be from the Air India Express plane that made an emergency landing at the airport on Monday, the airline has now said it cannot confirm whether the metal parts came from its aircraft.
People familiar with the matter said the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has ordered an investigation into the incident.
One source said the parts could be parts of broken blades from the aircraft engine.
When contacted, an Air India Express spokesperson said that its flight IX 145 encountered engine issues after taking off from Delhi on September 2.
The flight is bound for Bahrain.
“The malfunction was handled in accordance with established procedures and a precautionary landing was made in Delhi,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
In addition, the spokesperson said that the matter has been reported to the regulatory agency and other relevant agencies and is currently under investigation.
“We are aware of reports of metal fragments being found in Shankar Vihar. At this time, we are unable to confirm whether these metal fragments came from our aircraft. Investigations are ongoing to ascertain the facts.
