Residents of rural areas of the Bikramganj power supply department in Rohtas district of Bihar will soon benefit from the installation of smart prepaid meters. The measure aims to provide greater convenience and reliability to electricity consumers in these areas.
The new smart meter has a special button designed to solve mobile network issues. The button enables consumers to manually reconnect the meter if necessary, ensuring uninterrupted power supply.
Assistant Electrical Engineer Raj Kumar pointed out that a dedicated mobile application has been developed to facilitate the operation and monitoring of these smart meters. The app provides real-time information on electricity usage and account balance. When consumers' balances run low, they can quickly charge through the app and reconnect their meters. The technology enables users to effectively manage their electricity usage and maintain uninterrupted service.
New smart prepaid electricity meters installed in rural areas feature convenient buttons designed to assist consumers during network outages. By pressing and holding the button for 10 seconds, the user can initiate an internal command to reconnect the meter, ensuring that power continues to be received while the balance is sufficient.
The feature is part of the Bihar government's wider initiative to replace outdated electricity meters with advanced smart prepaid models. Kumar explained that these new meters are being installed at the main entrances to consumers’ homes, simplifying monitoring and maintenance. Licensing department personnel are making the transition smoothly to minimize inconvenience to consumers.
The Assistant Electrical Engineer has issued a stern warning regarding the smart meter installation process. Consumers who obstruct this process may face legal action under Sections 8.2 and 8.6 (C) of the Bihar Electricity Supply Act. In addition, the power supply to the relevant locations may be cut off.
This warning is intended to encourage cooperation from consumers to ensure a smooth transition to new smart meters so that everyone can benefit from upgraded services without disruption.
