A 21-year-old Kota student, who was preparing for NEET-UG, allegedly committed suicide by hanging from the ceiling of a rented room of a house on Wednesday night.
This is the 14th student suicide at the Kota coaching center since January this year, while the city reported 26 suicide deaths in 2023.
The father of the deceased holds the alleged NEET-24 exam scam responsible for the extreme approach adopted by the youth. However, he did not make any allegations regarding the incident in his report to the police. No suicide note was found in the room where the student stayed.
The deceased’s name was Parshuram Jatav (21 years old), a resident of Barsana in Mathura district, Uttar Pradesh. He last spoke to his father at around 1:15 pm on Wednesday and expressed desire to go home.
His father Khacharmal asked him to return home. But after that, his son did not answer his calls.
The incident came to light around 11pm on Wednesday when the homeowner knocked on the door of the youth's room for not noticing him at night. The caretaker informed the police, who rushed to the spot, opened the door of the room, fished out the body and deposited it in the mortuary of MBS Hospital.
Kachamal, a mason by trade, arrived in Kota on Thursday morning. Speaking to the media outside the mortuary, he held the “scam” of the NEET-UG-24 exam responsible for his son's extreme behavior.
He said that this was the second time that his son took the NEET-24 exam. The first time he scored 647 points, but in the review results, his score dropped to 247 points (66%), which frustrated his father. Four told PTI outside the mortuary.
“The NEET body and the rich who manipulated the NEET exam killed my son,” he said.
Kachamal claimed that his son received a scholarship to a coaching institute in Kota due to his academic excellence and academic excellence. Parshuram, who had earlier studied in Kota for two years, returned again five to six days ago to prepare for his third attempt in NEET. For this purpose, he got admission in a coaching institute in Kota, Kachamal added.
