Sonajhuri Haat, a market held every Saturday afternoon, will now be open to visitors 4 days a week. According to Local 18 Bengal, this has become a favorite hangout spot for tourists after visiting the Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore Museum. Sonajhuri Haat is famous for its handicrafts. No tourist has ever visited Santiniketan, nor has he been to Sonajhuri Haat at least once. Santiniketan in West Bengal is a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its unique arts and vibrant cultural festivals. Therefore, apart from tourists, artisans and traders will also benefit if Sonajhuri Haat is opened 6 days a week. Previously, the hat had been open to visitors on Saturdays and Sundays. Some local artists in the area started this then-not-so-popular market. Nowadays, these hats are being organized in large areas and the demand from customers here is also high. Sonajhuri Haat has been operating four days a week, from Saturday to Tuesday, for the past few months due to huge demand for its products.
But then the need arose to increase the number of days Sonajhuri Haat is open. As the famous Durga Puja in West Bengal is approaching, the festival will be held from October 9 to October 12. Therefore, the Sonajhuri Haat authorities appealed to the local MLA and Minister of State Chandranath Sinha to extend the opening hours of the Haat. Applications have been accepted and the market will now be open six days a week. Closed every Wednesday only. On Wednesday, the market will be cleaned and planted.
In Sonajhuri Haat market, we can see many artefacts and photos of Kabiguru Rabindranath Tagore.
