On September 3, in Vijayawada, the commercial capital of Andhra Pradesh, stranded residents waded through flooded roads to safety after heavy rain.
The minister also assured the agricultural community that the Center will provide appropriate compensation after assessing the damage to crops.
Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday announced immediate assistance of Rs 3,448 crore to mitigate the impact of floods in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
“No one needs to be disappointed. We are working hard to provide immediate help,” Chouhan said after reviewing the flood situation in Andhra Pradesh in Telangana today.
Arrangements are being made for immediate assistance of Rs 3,448 crore under the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF), which also includes the central government's share, he said.
He added that after providing immediate assistance, the government would consider providing farmers with fertilizers and seeds needed for next season's crops.
The minister also assured the agricultural community that the Center will provide appropriate compensation after assessing the damage to crops.
“We will ask banks not to call back loans from farmers in times of crisis,” he added.
Chouhan conducted an aerial survey of crop damage in flood-affected districts of Minawaru, Peddagopalvaram, Mannoor and Katuru in Telangana. He also met with people in Kaman and discussed their problems, an official statement said.
The minister mentioned that Prime Minister Modi was concerned about the flood situation in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana.
