    The rocket fell on the residence of the former prime minister, claiming the life of a local resident, RK Rabei Singh, an elder, who was preparing ceremonial items for an event scheduled to take place tomorrow.

    An elderly man was killed and five others injured in a rocket attack carried out by suspected Kuki militants on the residence of former chief minister Myrumbam Curran in Moirang in Manipur's Bishnupur district on Friday.

    According to officials, the bomb attack occurred around 3:30 pm on Friday. The rocket fell on the residence of the former prime minister, claiming the life of a local resident, RK Rabei Singh, an elder, who was preparing ceremonial items for an event scheduled to take place tomorrow.

    “The old man was preparing for some religious rituals in the courtyard when the bomb exploded. He died on the spot,” the official was quoted as saying by the Press Trust of India news agency.

    Five other people – Salam Nanao (40), Galena Mairembam (13), Rajeev Bobo (58), Kongjengbam Jogindro (52) and Nangom Ibobi (65) – were injured in the bomb attack.

    After receiving information about the incident, the local Provincial Department of Justice rushed to the scene to assess the situation. The rocket landed about two kilometers away from the INA headquarters.

    The police immediately rushed to the scene and launched an investigation.

    Earlier in the day, a rocket was launched from high in the nearby mountains towards the low-lying residential area of ​​Tronglaobi, about 45 kilometers from the state capital Imphal. Several attacks were also launched, including bombings that destroyed some buildings.

    Thousands of people formed human chains in five districts of Imphal Valley on Friday to protest against recent drone and gun attacks in Manipur that killed two civilians and injured 12 others.

    Attendees also expressed dissatisfaction with the government's handling of the ongoing conflict in the state.

    The rally was organized by the Coordination Committee for Integrity of Manipur (COCOMI) and took place in Thoubal Bazar, Lilong Chajing in Thoubal district, Sekmai and Kwaishur In Kwakeithel, Singjamei and other places, uniformed middle school and college students and women from all over the country lined up on the roadside.     The protesters held placards that read “Drone blasts are an act of terrorism”, “We condemn the cowardice of the Manipur government”, “Take action against Kuki terrorists”, “Manipur's territory” and administrative integrity must not be compromised” and “We want peace; we want peace”.
